The ring game started at $50 a game, and progressed to $1000- a game when it was won by;
1st place=$7000-=Jamie Farrell of New Orleans
2nd place=$2500-=Jonathan Hennessee of Manchester, TN
3rd place=$1000-=John Drew Hager of San Antonio, TX
4th place=John Macias Hattiesburg, MS
5th place=Bobby Pickle of Nashville
6th place=Buster Merchant of Greenville, MS
7th place=Danny "I lost 25 straight games and had a wonderful time" Basavich
I was told by the promoter RH "Professor" Gilmer that the players exhibited the finest sportsmanship ever witnessed!

Wow, what a game. I picked Kid Delicious to win, but goes to show you anything can happen. Can't wait to hear the details.

That would have been sweet to watch. I would have picked Danny too but just goes to show. Anything can happen in a ring game. I would love to see that on video..

Peace.

Re: Ring Game In MS - Outstanding Sportsmanship!

Thanks Ted for posting the results and especially for conveying the comment about the sportsmanship the players displayed. To me that was the most remarkable thing about the whole event.

Don't get me wrong, the Ring-Game was great, and there were some outstanding displays of talent. But, if you had told me that these guys would get together and play for the kind of money that was at stake for the length of time they did, and never bitch and complain, or whine and moan, or bicker and fuss; I simply would not have believed it. They are to be commended for their display of talent, but they should be praised for the professional and courteous manner in which they conducted themselves. Truly it was a sight to behold. I have been around this game more years than I care to mention and never have I witnessed anything associated with it that pleased me more than the behavior of these seven gentlemen.

Someone questioned me unbelievingly about this, and I said “Oh yes, there was that thing about the break pad they had to break off of.” And the person querying me replied, “Yea, I know they really didn’t like having to use that did they! I‘ll bet they really complained about that, didn’t they.” To which I replied, “No, it wasn’t that, it was just at some point they asked if they could get a new pad, that the one they were using was about worn out.” Believe it or not, it is true; they exemplified the meaning of a sporting gentleman.

And Ted is right on about the statement for Kid Delicious and the next thing out of his mouth was “When are we going to do this again Professor?” You have got to love it!

Joe “RunArak” Koontz, what Porter said is true; the match was taped, almost 12 hours of it in total. If you would like to have a copy of it (2 six-hour VHS tapes) you may order it off the main page of the Southern Billiards web site at http://SouthernBilliards.com My main regret is that you only get to see the table and the shots that were made and missed; and not the outstanding display of sportsmanship exhibited by all of the players.

I am sure that someone can and probably say what they saw some of them do at some other time. And, to be honest so could I with regard to some of them. But, I am telling you this was what I witnessed during the ring-game, and it was simply outstanding. They exhibited the finest sportsmanship I have ever witnessed among pool players, and it was in the heat of battle! Prof. R H Gilmer

Professor, any chance of getting a copy of this game without having a credit card?? Definetly interested in getting a copy, but don't have a credit card to do the whole paypal thing. if there is an address I could send a money order too or something, that would work really well. Thanks and looking forward to seeing the game.

You know that you can go to drug stores and such and buy credit cards. They scan the amount you want it for and you then use it like any other credit card.

thanks for the info, i'll definetly be looking into it. Hopefully there is some place around here that does that. I've never heard of it, but now that i know they do it, i'll definetly do some checking in on it. Thanks again

...kid

You would have better luck getting a hold of him directly. I am not sure how often he checks this board.

What was the break cloth made of?

Do the tapes have audio?
