Ring Game Rules for my App

I would be interested in obtaining 9 ball ring game rules.
I want them for an app I wrote to keep score of Ring Games (Android).

It's called: Blind Squirrel's Ring Game. (watch the video explaining the app)

I've played ring games for many years and the rules vary from town to town.
I'd like to create a "Basic Standardized Set of Rules" (which will always be modified by players anyway), to help Newbie's understand the Basic Rules, which would help to promote billiards in general...

Please attach/post your version of the rules.
I will go over them all and "hopefully" write a set that everyone can be happy with!

Also,
Would Ring Gamer's be interested in the app doing random numbers for the playing positions?
We generally do coin flips.
I ask because many players seem to NEVER HAVE A COIN ON THEM!
I find that amazing because almost every game/set either lags of flips for the break!!!

Thanks,
BS

Nine ball rules with necessary changes:

Honest effort to make legal hit
Any foul provides incoming shooter to make foiling player shoot again.
All balls made as a result of foul are spotted and incoming player may take ball in hand behind headstrong (or make fouling player shit again)
Player who wins game breaks next and player before him racks.
Pay every game.
Shuffle order every 5 games or so to reduce effects of collusion.
Pay every game.

Honest effort to make a ball, not just a hit. No safes…

I really don’t know how you prevent two ways. That’s like saying if you miss a shot you have to leave the next guy a shot…

I appreciate the input on "rules".
I will try and get a set of rules into my app this week.

If you register on my website, you can download the app for free.
It only works for 30 days from the time you install it (while in beta testing).
When you 1st open the app (beta version) it will say it has expired, just open the 2nd time and that goes away.
Any input is appreciated...

That will be fixed in the "new release".

Thanks,
BS

Agreed. Way too difficult to apply to gameplay.

You do make a good hit, you get to keep shitting until you don't make a good hit.

You don't make a good hit, any balls made come up and incoming player can make fouler shit again.

IMO, 10B is a game better suited for a ring game. Here's the rules we play by:

Money balls: 5B & 10B
No safeties
Slop counts
If the lowest numbered ball on the table is not hit, incoming player has the option to shoot where the cue ball lies or give the shot back to the previous player. If a ball other than the lowest numbered ball on the table is pocketed in this scenario, it is spotted.
If the cue ball is pocketed, the incoming player has the option of ball in hand behind the head string or give the shot back to the previous player who also has ball in hand behind the head string. If a ball(s) is pocketed as well, it is spotted.
If a scratch occurs while attempting to pocket the 5B and the 4B has already been pocketed, the 4B is spotted and the incoming player has the option to shoot with ball in hand behind the head string or give the shot back to the previous player who also has ball in hand behind the head string.
If a scratch occurs while attempting to pocket the 10B and the 9B has already been pocketed, the 9B is spotted and the incoming player has the option to shoot with ball in hand behind the head string or give the shot back to the previous player who also has ball in hand behind the head string.
If a money ball is pocketed out of rotation, the player scores and the money ball is spotted with the player continuing his/her inning.
The player who pockets the 10B in rotation breaks the next rack.
The player who pockets the 5B in rotation shoots second the next rack.
The player who sold out the rack racks the next game and shoots last.

I question why you need a scoring app. The best and easiest way to keep score is with coins under the cushions using the rail sights as $1 increments.

That can get tricky using coins, especially when there are 6-10 players.
I hate to say it, but some people will try and double move! (seen that happen too many times in N. Florida)
Or forget to move until later, then it's can become an argument! (happens way to often)
We use to use coins, then switched to paper, but try and find pencil & paper every time can be challenging.

There are 2 things pool players always have a shortage of:
1) Pencil & Paper
2) Coins to keep score and LAG with! (You would think EVERY pool player would have coins to lag with! But they don't...)

This app is convenient and easy to use.
Most people have their phones with them all the time.
If the app is used by a lot of people, I'll create a log-in system where everyone can see the page with the scoring from their own phone or website.

IMO, that's too many players for a ring game, especially 9B. We cap ours here locally at 4 players; 5 in extreme situations

Good way to get kicked out and banned.

If you forget to move your coin after your inning you forfeit your score.

Paper makes it all very confusing. We had a buddy who didn't grasp the concept of using coins to keep score so we accommodated him with pen and paper. What a nightmare. It was confusing and ruined the flow of the game.

Why is it everything need an APP❓ Technology is not always great, soon people with forget how to use a pencil n paper.

rexus31,

I've been in ring games that had 20+ players!
It would take 30-40 minutes to get a shot!

We got to where we'd bet on where the cue-ball stopped.
Place a $1 on where you think it stops, closest wins all $1 on the table!
I made a lot of $1's doing it...

Pay every game?
Pay every moneyball (no coins needed nowadays). Money not collected before the next shot is forfeit. Too many players, and the last man risks going bust before his shot comes up, unless he starts flush (ask me how I know). A half-dozen moneyballs made out of rotation in one rack is not that unusual. REALLY good players involved, and many racks will pass also before you can shoot.

Get 5 650-750 players. 20+/ $ball.
You're going to see too many two ways to be a coincidence 😉
