Do you play significantly different in one than the other? I can't seem to play as well when shooting sets for some reason, ring games and heads up cash on every game I'm slightly better.

Sets

i like to play wide open but its nice to play a safety every so often.that and i just like to action better.i like to socialize and drink too much in a ring game.

I believe most of the time the better player will come out ahead in a ring game. Johnnyt

You have to be getting the rolls to bust a ring game. I don't care how good you play. If you consistently hooked or given a bad shot than you can't win any games.

I agree

I was playing a $3 and $5 10 ring game with 5 other guys, and it was the 6th game before I got to shoot, and it was a jump shot. So, I end up getting
about $70 in before I ever get a decent shot, then I am playing catch up the rest of the night.

It is much easier to play 1 player than 4-5 others. You only have to evaluate 1 person's game (strengths and weaknesses) as opposed to 4-5. And believe me, if you have 2 of those players that are weak in an area or two, it can kill you depending on the rotation. (playing shots that sell out if they miss, not knowing how to kick balls for a safety, etc.)

I believe exactly the opposite, unless of course you are playing for a long period of time, so the rolls can even out.

ditto on that. Ring games all come down to the rolls you get and who you follow. Ive been in ring games with better players and took everybodys money, ive been in ring games with worse players and paid out the whole time.

Maybe you play the player and not the game? I'd love playing some nitwits a ring game, I'll get more chances at the table to run out. If you get a shot to run, and don't win, it's no one else's fault

But rolls and order are important in any event. Especially when the skill level is close to level between the players

I perfer sets, lets me get into their heads and screw them up. Plus paying larger sums of money after an hour mindfraks a player more than 3-10 bux out of pocket back and forth.

set = hmm, i lost 100 bux, gonna take me another hour to try an win that back
ring = hmm, lost 10 bux, i can make 40 in the next five minutes. 1 minute if i'm super lucky :)

Sorry I misread it. I thought it said 10 ahead. Not drinking either. Johnnyt
