Ring Positions

I always wondered about the placement of the rings corresponding to the assigned letter. Correct me if I'm wrong but is this how it goes?

Joint-A ring
Front of wrap-B ring
Back of wrap-C ring
Front of butt-D ring
Rear of butt or buttcap-E ring

Is this correct or am I just stupid? Thanks in advance. Rob.

Actually your way would be way to easy,
Above the wrap is usually called the A- joint because that's usually the first place to get the rings when building a cue.
In my case using your letters,
A- Splice
B- Below the wrap
C-Above the butt cap
D- Joint
E- Shafts
I build all my cues in this order.
I don't use the letters, I just call each place what it is.

This is just how i see it, but here it goes:
A - Joint rings on shaft.
B - Joint rings on butt.
C - Rings between forearm and handle/wrap.
D - Rings between handle/wrap and butt sleeve.
E - Rings between butt sleeve and butt cap.

I'm sure some people label them differently though.

The above are perfect examples of why I don't use the letters. In my opinion no one is wrong, it just depends on your point of view.

I don't have mine with me,but the Blue Book would have the most accepted order.

Here is what I would suggest to stop the confusion. Do not confuse rings and joints. The A-joint has an A-Joint Ring, but you might call it the C ring, but if you do, never throw the word Joint in the statement. As Mike showed above the way the A-Joint name came about is probably from the ABC's of cue building: The order things are done in.
