If your CueSmith has the Indexing Head, all you need is a router type set up (horizontal) with whatever size bit you want.

The guy selling those has been on there for a long time selling the delrin joint caps, and other stuff. Those rings look pretty good, and are probably worth the money when you figure cost of materials, waste, getting setup up correctly so they line up, and chopping the billet into rings with out breaking them. It seems alot easier then It actually Is. It's alot easier to make a mistake, then to get them right.

Anyway with that being said I know of 2 ways you can do It, using your index. One is with the trim router- If you need to use a 1/8 bit in It to cut a smaller slot with, then they sell 1/4 to 1/8 shank adapters.

The trim router was kind of loud for me, I work at night alot anyway, and It's too loud, so last night I did alittle backyard engineering, and slapped this together real quick. Not pretty but holds the dremel centered in the middle where My cutting tool would normally be. The only thing I really have to line up is the tip of the cutter with the tailstock, and It seems to level the rest of the dremel out automatically. still experiementing with it, but seems like It may work for me with a few ajustments. It cuts an even slot, and you can get them tight with the correct bit. The dremel is higher rpm, and seems to have alittle more runnout then a mill, altough still cuts an even slot, just bigger, so you have to account for that.

Here's some pics.

They also sell that paticular billet at Atlas if you can't produce it.

Do you have a link to It Mike? I can't find It on their site. I know they use to sell It back some time ago, but been a while since I have seen any on there. Do you have to ask about It or something?

I haven't seen them on Atlas' website, but Prathercue.com has them. I have never tried any of them, however.

Hope this helps,

Who is the guy on eBay that makes/sells them?

If using the Laminate Trim Router horizontally to cut the billets, what is a good bit to use (carbide, steel, etc)

Thanks,
Zim

Yep, Prather has It, they will even custom make It to your specs I believe. It even sells By the inch, or 3 inch pieces not sure. I was Just wondering if atlas still had It, and I did'nt know about It or something.

Looks like this setup is going to get me by for a few pieces. I know the thing makes an excellent cuttoff tool for cutting rings off If nothing else. just slapped a chipbreaker bit in it with the square tips, cut a few pieces off a billet blank, It cut just as smooth as could be, and the rings need nothing, but barely deburred on the ID. no need to flatten them out because both sides were perfectly square, and the faces close tightly. None of the pesky blowouts that tear the inside dia. all to pieces, or extreme heat buildup that you get with manual cutters.
Thanks, Greg
