A guy called fast freddie from Fla. came into
Clarksburg 1 time, killed eveybody in 9 & 8
ball & swore Ronnie Allen would beat any-
body we saw on t.v. I've seen, over the
years, Mark Kadd, John Oakie from Philly,
an older black guy called oneeye or deadeye,
only had 1 eye, truck drivin Ansel McCoy,
Lucky Joey from Charleston. Many old timers
told me that years ago you didn't see the
best players on tv. No internet, no huge
tourney purses. They were better off
remaining anonymous. Along with Allen,
who would've fallen into that category,
say in the 50's or 60's? The hustlers
came to Clarksburg in the 30's & 40's
but not that much when I was growing up.

Those old guys must've taken you for a sucker. Everyone knows that it's always been possible to see the best player's pics on the 'net!

And as for TV- in the 20's, when Cox and Comcast were at their strongest, you could turn the box on just about any time and see the best 14.1 and balkline players battling it out...

Piglit, ALWAYS been an internet? How old are you?
18? In years back they would post pictures of
players cut out of Billiard News & post then
on bulletin boards. When I started watching
on tv Irving Crane dominated & later Mike
Sigel was the man. Were there guys Not
on tv then better than them?
