Rodney Morris at The Masters

I'm glad to see Rodney playing so well in The Masters. When he lived here in Phoenix, I used to watch him practice quite often at Bull Shooters. To watch him practice, one might think the guy really doesn't play all that well because he seems to be so nonchalant about it. But I've seen him in competition too, and that's just his style - very smooth and free-flowing. He really can PLAY!

Or is it just that Kamui tip he uses? :D

The first time I saw Rodney play was at Barry Behrman's "Master's" event in the spring in Chesapeake VA about 8 years ago. It was also the first pro tournament I went to. Got to the arena about an hour before play began and Rodney was on a table warming up. He was the only guy in there. He'd grab the balls out of the return and toss them out on the table and just start running them out. He did it 7 times in a row before he missed on a ridiculously long, painfully thin cut shot; he missed by a fraction. He set the shot up again until he made it 3 times in a row and then kept going. Ran another 5 or 6 racks before me missed again. I could only sit there fascinated as he made the game look as easy as walking. Just amazing!

When he finally stopped, I thanked him for the demonstration. He seemed surprised to see me sitting nearby watching and we chatted for about 10 minutes. Super nice guy, too!

That hour taught me a lot about how good these guys really are and how much practice I need to even be allowed to carry their cue.

Did Rodney move out of Phoenix? Also, down here in Tucson we were talking about where Rodney was practicing, now I know. Thanks for info and, YES, he can play a lil. ;)
