A couple questions:
- Why the different finish?
- Can you provide a picture of the shaft where the thread goes in?
- What is the thing around the joint above the collar? Looks like a piece of leather? Something to protect the joint?
Thanks,
Jonathan

I use tung oil so whoever buys the cue can maintain the finish themselves or repair the finish themselves if they put a ding in the cue. Damp wash cloth and iron heat will remove the ding. Reapply tung oil and you are repaired. No need to pay someone $200 to refinish your cue. Years ago this type of finish was used a lot. Picture of joint with Maple stained joint protector.

I'm curious what this feels like. I really like the feel of clear coat or well sanded epoxy finish because it's got a certain tackiness with my skin. This seems like it may not have that tackiness given the wax, but then again, I don't know.

Tung oil finish in itself still enables you to grip well. The wax over the Tung Oil might make it feel a little slicker. You can remove the wax with mineral spirts if you like. I really don't see a problem with gripping the cue. If I had, I would have noticed it. Tung oil brings out the natural beauty of the wood and the wood will age with more beauty. Also the Tung Oil water proofs the cue better than hard finishes. The oil goes deep inside the wood. I built myself a cue over 20 years ago and put Tung oil on it. It has matured beautifully. Any cue I build for myself I use Tung Oil.
