Ronnie Alcano a bit weird?

the first comment kinda caught me by surprise so i checked it out and it really does say that on wikipedia so i would like some more informed members to drop some info on that.i mean might be just a made up thing since its wiki and everybody can write rubbish.i would just like to know is that a fact or a rumor

oh yeah and the "my nail like a woman" thing doesnt really help :D i mean whats up with that

He actually wasn't that bad in this one. You *do* know that he yanked out all his teeth (had them removed) to more closely emulate his idol, Efren, right? I forget which match exactly, and which commentator, but it was stated right in the match video that Ronnie A. had all his teeth pulled so he could be more like Efren. That's the mystique of Efren in those parts!

if true, that is the craziest thing I've ever heard! And that's saying alot. My only question would be... How was his grill before extraction? I mean efren had some crazy ass teeth before he went smooth. :D But if he pulled a good set up chompers to look life efren, then he's certifiable IMO wowzers
 
Coming from poverty his teeth probably were'nt their best. Maybe he was too embarassed so he just tells em he just wants to be like Efren.

My memory seems to recall it was the 2006 World Pool Championships, and Jay Helfert mentioning this fact about Ronnie Alcano, but I will be the first to admit my memory may be flawed at the moment, and an open invitation to Jay to lambaste me here in public if I'm wrong.

Anyways, the printed accounts above should be sufficient. If Ronnie indeed removed a good set of chompers to "look like his idol," I'd say this is certainly a certifiable maneuver, for sure. If, on the other hand, those chompers were sparse and removing them were actually doing the mouth a favor, then the "want to be like Efren" was just a cover.

Wow! Do you really believe that he wanted to lose his teeth?! You believe that story then I have a very nice bridge to sell you with a great view... cheap!
 
Wow, all this info is very strange. He's a super beast of a player though, one of the very top in the World.
 
i didnt know about his teeth, very interesting but i still belive he didnt remove them on purpose he probably had to.

what about the rape charges nobody commented on that is that true?
 
I don't think he speaks English well enough to understand some of the questions and then answer with the right words. He's trying.......

I know one of the guys here in the states that a lot of Filipinos stay with when they're here because he speaks their language and is in the pool scene. Two yrs ago when Ronnie was staying with him, he told me the story about the teeth. I had never heard of it before then and according to him, he was told this by Ronnie. As someone else mentioned, due to his living conditions growing up, its probably a safe assumption that he didn't have a nice perfect, pearly white smile as yourself, Mr. Mills. :cool:

Rather, I think the "wanna be like Efren" was just a cover -- Ronnie probably *had* to have them removed because of acidic mouth, poverty, or what-have-you. The press releases / articles in my post #6 are what they are -- printed articles. Take 'em for what they're worth -- which is not hearsay, by the way -- there are too many printed articles like this for this to be a "wive's tale."

If billiards sports news EVER made it to mainstream, prime time news t.v., this would be the next interview:

Announcer: "Efren, Ronnie Alcano has stated on several occasions that he removed all of his teeth in tribute to you, so that he could be more like you. What do you think about that?"

Efren looks surprised, says something nice and noncommittal, perhaps just saying something about how well Alcano plays...

Announcer: "Yes, Alcano really is a very good player- do you think yanking out all of his teeth helped his game?"

Efren's eyes start looking for his agent, but he avoids the question again and says something encouraging and diplomatic to all players and to the sport.

:yes:... yup, he is trying. Reporters should try to look for a translator for players who do not really speak english.
 
Funny thread..........

Both Ronnie and I are from the same province of Laguna Calamba in Rizal. We play at the same pool hall ( The Calamba Pool Zone ). Ive talked to him numerous times and first off I dont care what Filipino you talk to, they ALL understand english perfectly well, as far as responding in perfect English, they are very shy becasue they do not want to say somthing that wont make sense to us. But the teeth rumor is NOT a rumor at all. Ronnie didnt have great teeth growing up and eventually had to get them pulled due to rot and decay. His reference to getting his teeth pulled to emulate Bata is true, he does in fact say that, but thats not why he did it.

Do you know if Ronnie and Efren are friends? Which of the Filipino players are friends with each other? Ive always been curious. It seems like Efren and Francisco are pretty close. I never hear of Luat or Alcano or Lee Vancorteeza or andam or ever paling around with other players. Do you know if they do and who is in with who? do they get along well with each other? sorry for so many questins, Im just real curious about these guys.
