Ronnie Allen vs "Red", 1969..."Houdini couldn't get out from here!"

Great snippet from Winning One Pocket. The fact that the out isn't "on tilt" is my favorite part. Each shot individually represents a balance of offense and defense (imho).

Two Part Survey:

1) Is this the best one pocket out of all time?
2) Who currently could pull it off?

One of the most underrated players of all time imo.
Red was a sho enough beast on the green felt!!
To answer your question, Efren might be the only person alive who would even see that sequence.

What i wouldn't give to spend one more day with those guys

I don't know which one played the best

both were great players and tough customers

both had a soft side,i recall them spilling out their guts to my wife

i know they were hard to math up and beat
this is no game for softies life on the road is hard
there is hardly anything easy

but at times, like the one that started this thread
it was two little boys with sticks and balls

this game pounded on them both
on the road away from love and family

sorry,i don't need to tell most of you

Red was a fun guy to be around. I used to love it when he was in the pool room. Always telling stories and holding court. Everyone loved the guy. Always seamed to me that he was in a good mood. Always a gentleman. I don't ever remember him drinking or smoking. He would talk a little smack but never cross any lines. Always respectful. That's how I remember him.

I remember early on JJ used to spar with him for $10 a game. I'm not sure how many $10 games JJ lost but I think it was a bunch until he gained enough knowledge to start beating him. Red always would teach and talk about shots and situations during those sparing matches. What shots to shoot and how to shoot them. That's what helped to make JJ a great one pocket player. And I got to see them play on the 10 footer.

It was incredible to have that front row seat.
