very interesting to see how much of this is done w/ hand planing and sanding.

you'd be hard pressed to see many US cuemakers turn down their shafts by hand, but of course a straight taper would probably be much easier by hand than a pro-taper.

I agree! I'm amazed at how much "by hand" planing and sanding-down is done at the Parris shop!
