Ronnie vs Barry - the story continues

Ronnie V Barry

The Good.
The players wanted more tournaments and prize money. They voted in Barry Hearn and he gave them what they asked for and taking the game to new audiences is a good thing.
The Bad.
Some of Barry Hearns ideas have worked out better than others. The short frame format tournaments level out the players and bring out shock results like the Wuxi Classic, even Ronnie O'Sullivan can lose 5 frames in a row.
The Ugly.
When players like Mark Williams start to speak out and Mark Allen who can't help but to speak out.Stephen Hendry quitting on the back of a decent run at the Worlds.Ronnie O'Sullivan picking and choosing where and when to play(that creates it's own chaos when you do the Event Predictor or have a bet at the Bookies:eek::wink::grin:)you know something is up with the players.

The main winners since Barry Hearn took over are Barry himself who can do no wrong if you believe the hype. The commentators who are travelling the world and the viewers who have an endless choice of tournaments to take in.The main ingredient to keep it all ticking over is the players and I'm sure Ricky Walden would have liked to party and Stuart Bingham would have joined him for a few beers to drown his sorrows but no they have to play the 6 reds tournament.Think of the amount of players who threatened to quit last season and you could maybe double that figure by the end of this season.Just my opinion.

Greg Norman tried something similar in golf.

The golf commissioner did everything to kill the idea (which Hearn with his talk of heavy sanctions is doing), then the PGA basically stole the idea and started having events with only the top ranked players invited.

Edit: just watched the Golf Channel and learned there will be a "Turkish Airlines World Golf" championship after the Ryder Cup with 8 players and the largest first prize in golf...2.5 million bucks. 5.3 million split between 8 already rich golfers. Sounds awful similar.
