Router...what's needed for shaft and butt turning

I'm thinking of setting up a router on my lathe for shaft and butt turning. The size of the trim routers I've looked at seem to lend themselves to mounting on the lathe cross slide. Is a trim router adequate? Are there any specific features the router must possess for shaft/butt turning? Are there off the shelf mounts that can be used or do I need to build my own mounting setup?

I like the Porter Cable 690 with the 1/2 inch collet. It also comes with a 3/8 and 1/4 collets. You can run the hell out of it and it holds up. I have burned up others in just a few days. You can't go wrong with Porter Cable

are there commercial "adapters" for putting a taper bar setup on a metal lathe ?
I'm sure I remember one of the cue makers/cue machinery makers sells em .

taper/bars

Yes, I have mentioned before that I build and sell taper/bars for cuemaking.
one, for shafts, another will be for butts, and one for cutting VEE points in the fronts of cues.
give me a call so we can visit about your needs and type of machine you have, then I can give you a firm price, and delivery date.
