rubber tips?

Just wondering if anyone has ever experimented with a hard rubber cue tip?

If so, what were the results?
 
Rubber tips have been done before with somewhat disastrous results. Lack of cue ball control, cloth burns, unwanted English, etc.

in 85 my friend bought a dozen, we all thought we were gonna be champions, so he started putting them on his clostest friendsm it was a busy room just before the color of money, there were about 60 people there a night or more on the week days and way over 150 on the weekends the table list was 20 something deep. Anyways I got one of the rubber tips, I used it for a week, I was a C- player, with that tip I was a W- player, it ws theworst thing ever, miscues constantly, we couldnt cscuff them up, my friend took off 12 tips, took them off and reinstalled 12 more tips in about a week, 36 tips the hard way, no lathe etc, he still does perfect tip work the old fasion way, but no more rubber tips ever again. they had black pads

i've always wondered what a rubber tip would do & i think you answered my question...but did you notice any difference in the amount of spin on the cueball?
