Is Ruben Bautista Escalera from the Philippines the same person as Ruben Bautista that took a dive against Mika Immonen ?

You would have had to watch it.
Who had Mika Immonen in the calcutta ? Who had Ruben Bautista in the calcutta ?

Well that's not what taking a dive means.

I watched the match. He did choke. He didnt throw it.

Sorry, I do not know if they are the same person.

I know what he meant and I made a wise crack, sorry you missed it

Of course he choked otherwise why when on the hill would you play three good shots to leave yourself straight in on a 10 ball and then bash it into the rail :p

Sarcasm is sometimes missed in text.

Ruben is from Mexico. And that was most certainly NOT a dump. Cue ball was on the rail and he he was slightly jacked up. It was a devastating choke, though.

Those types of misses can haunt you for a long time. Nick Varner said he would have leveled out and rolled that one. I agree..

The shot on the 9 was to draw back near the pocket opening leave a slight angle and better cueing, not sure if that is what he intended and just played a bad shot.
After that he was gone in the second set.

Agreed. Would not have fired at it the way he did. Rolling it is the better option for me.

I thought Mika was the one dumping from the shots he was missing LOL. After a few of them, even the announcers were sounding like the finals during the Tournament of Champions setup that Hall was in. I really started to think something funny was up.

Missing that 10 ball for the win, I'd probably never be able to look myself in the mirror.

I think he wasn't real happy with what he got off the 9. Whatever it was, I ached for him. Wonder how many times in a row he has made himself make that 10 today? 100? 300? 500?
I truly ached for him. He owned that tournament!!!

You have to question a player that goes from the hot seat to choking on the cheese. It was Mika that acted strange.

Ruben played well and is an exciting player to watch. I hope we get to see more of him in the future.

My heart stopped when he missed that shot. But, the real missed shot was the position from the 9 to the 10. He was under so much pressure that he needed to stay off the rail.

So his choice was to hit the 9 and stick as he did. A fairly slow stroke. Or hit it harder and draw back for the 10 in the side.
I play at Felt and those Diamonds have a deep shelf and are well known for rejecting balls hit hard.
So I think he opted to hit it soft and stick and take a slight angle shot from the rail.
The mistake he made was to jack up a bit and hit it hard.
Nick was correct when he said level cue and roll it in .But that takes great nerves.
The first sign of bad nerves is to jack up a little and it hard.
I was watching it on the stream and I jumped a bit when he missed it.
But we all have dogged a shot or two under pressure. That's just being human.

On the 10 ball shot jacking up is just wrong. Shoot near level cue, follow tgrough and just roll it in. He had a slight cut to his right and hit it so bad the 10 hit the opposite side rail 4 inches from the hole. Then it went 3 rails to the top corner.

I had 230 bet on Immonen and was logging inti Paypal to payoff when he dogged, biggesr swing I had in awhile. He had everything going his way, not sure he ever won a big wvent against world class talent. He won something big in Mexico and pkays very strong. I am sure somehow this will only make him stronger.

The alternating break format in thisvevent, race to 8, made for sone very close sets. Immonen gave him the 3rd and 4th games to make it 2-2, then 2 more games later. In thelast 2 sets Rueben made a ball once on his 13 or so breaks. He never moved the cueball, changes sides or hit it different. He was very lucky to be clise and catch a pro like Mika out of stroke the one set before fibals and the first of tge finals. Tge secobd final set Mika played strong and Rueben coukd not help to pkay like a man who just wanted out of tgere. Set 3 was 8-3 as I recall.
