Rule question - confirmation

I got asked for a ruling last night at a tournament I was running, I think I handled it correctly (if not unpopularly).

Situation: Player A fires a ball into the side pocket, it hits the back of the pocket and flys up and off the table.

My ruling: ball off the table - foul ball in hand for player B.

Can someone confirm I made the right call please?

You would be right. The rules state 'where the ball comes to rest', if it comes to rest off the table, ball in hand.

I'm assuming play is under Texas Express type rules.

Sounds right to me. Note that I edited out the uninteresting parts.

What if it lands on top off the rail and stays there. Ive seen this happen a few times.

Exactly.

If the ball comes to rest anywhere other than the bed of the table, ball in hand.
