Rule question Towel cloth in the pocket ?

In the finals of the 2000 US Open between Takeshi Okamura and Earl Strickland, Okamura places a towel on the rail/pockets several times to block the glare from the lights.

At 17:47, he does it for the first time. At 59:31, he does it again and the ref comes over to discuss and deems it legal.

Him missing the second one made it look like a shark by committee.

Doing what you can to fix a broken situation. Maybe it was an unusual kind of lighting -- I've never seen a problem with pocket casting glare before.
Those piano finish GC's had mirror-like finish on the castings. I can easily see how those tv klieg lights would almost blind you with their reflection.

I recall watching the match where Grady lays a towel on the table.

As I recall it was because he was shooting off the raised edge of a GC metal pocket facing. The towel was to give himself a more level surface to shoot off of.

I have also sinned in this manner.

I think shaft "sleeves" like these are commonly allowed.

That particular one is all but worthless unless you have a 6" bridge or less. They are too small. You would be better off cutting a finger out of a glove.

EDIT: I've used a bar coaster before when having to bridge on a sharp corner casting.

What does your bridge length have to do with a sliding sleeve?
