Balls are racked in a triangle shape with the 1-ball at the apex and the 10-ball in the center. Usually, if I'm playing in a ring game, we put the 5-ball in one of the bottom two center balls.
We play, 1 point on the 5-ball and 1 point on the 10-ball, and first to 10 points wins the jelly beans (we play cheap at $10 a match).
The game is played like 9-ball, in terms of hitting the lowest numbered ball first. We play, no safeties allowed, and you have the option to let the last person who shot, shoot again if they foul. On scratches, it's BIH in the kitchen and any pocketed balls or balls in the kitchen get spotted.
We also play, that if you make the 5-ball or 10-ball early, it gets spotted unless there's only one ball left to pot before the 5 or 10-ball. So in theory, you could combo in the 5 or 10-ball infinitely and keep getting it spotted.
