Teams are comprised of up to 8 players. You can play any combination of 5 that total 23 or less. If you can't come up with a combination of 23 or below out of 8 players, you haven't done a good job balancing your team.Does that mean a team might be 22 total SL going into a tourney and turn into a 24 during the event?
Yes, you could conceivably play one match with players totalling 22, and after that match, those same players could total 24. More reason to have a variety of skill levels available. And more reason to pay attention to the scoresheet when you get it, before you start the next round.
This is also a deterrent to teams who have players sandbag till the big tourney, then turn it on when it counts. In Vegas at Nationals (Worlds, I guess) if you have too many players go up in skill level while at that tourney, they will disqualify you. Again, trying to discourage sandbagging.
