I have a Predator cue. I also have a Predator break shaft. Just the shaft. Both shafts work on the same butt. They are quick release, so I can change the shafts just about a quickly as someone can change from a break to a playing cue. Is this legal? I know that unscrewing in the same as conceding, but I also know you are allowed to change shafts if something is wrong with your shaft, or if you don't like the feel or tip of the shaft you are using.

If you are playing a match and your opponent is on the hill and at the table shooting abd you feel the urge to change your shaft, just wait until it is your shot.
It is very clear in the BCA and World Standard Rules, but there is a lot of hearsay around because people don't read the rules.
your allowed to change shafts any time when it is your turn at the table and it your shot. If you miss and it is your oponets turn you are not soposed to change the shaft as that is unsportman like conduct (sharking) and it is concidered a forfit of the rack or set.

We always play here in my room that you can change the shaft anytime as long as you tell your opponent before you do it.
Also here if you grab the rack when your opponent is on the 9 ball or on the 8 ball when playing 8 ball it is a forfiet and they don`t have to shoot the shot, but we always call the 8 and 9 ball in this room.

If you are playing by other rules, it is probably not mentioned so therefore is open to interpretation and the inevitable resulting arguments.

There was another thread recently that addressed this matter not only from the standpoint of concession as per the rules, but also from the perspective of unsportsmanlike conduct and sharking. I would say that the simple, courteous and common sense approach to this would be to sit quietly in the chair when your opponent is shooting, and perform your tip tapping, shaft wiping, etc. when its your turn at the table or between games. IMHO, any unnecessary movement when not at the table is potentially distracting to your opponent, and as such should be avoided. For those who are concerned about using up the shot clock, I believe I have seen where there is a separate time extension for equipment changes, such as getting a bridge stick or head and changing shafts.

Unfortunately, there are many playing the game who evidently cannot play this way, therefore the need for rules to govern what should be normal behavior among ethical and well mannered sportsmen.
