Run out tip

If you cant put a string of 9 virtually perfect strokes together in a row you will not run a rack out, even if a you have a laser going from your cue to the contact point. My tip for 2012

Amen brother. Just figured that out after a several month slump. Now game is back to normal, maybe even better than before, all after a 2 week break over the holidays and a few hours of back to the basics stroke practice.

Amazing how that works...

You can make 9 perfect strokes and miss 9 shots in a row if you can't aim correctly consistently....

My stroke is so straight I can sometimes sink a ball using only one hand. Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and try that :grin-square:

i bet your last miss had to do with your stroke and not your aim, since i believe your an experienced player. ;)

There are plenty of weaker players with better strokes, but as Renfro said, that doesn't mean squat if they can't put the ball in the hole. I'm not exactly a model of stroke technique, but I can pocket okay. Just as I've also played lots of players that pocketed better than myself, but I could out-strategize 'em. If doing one thing right resulted in everything else happening correctly, this game would be eeeeasy and there wouldn't be, as Randy said, 49 million ways of doing the same thing - everybody would just be practicing their stroke.

Renfro missed the above bold in my original post, i would take the perfect mechanics over an aiming issue or strategical problem...my opinion

I'm a feel player, I don't really aim at anything. When my mechanics are good, I make the balls. No doubt. Maybe we all have our own problems, aiming was never mine. Mechanics have been tough to learn and keep under pressure.

You need both to play good. But I think a good stroke is much more important.

(Leaving to go run drills)

Duh!:) You HAVE to be able to hit what you're aiming at. And at the same time you MUST have the correct aiming point. And you may need some sort of control over the CB. Oh, game savy may just come into play (pattern play) also. But, it does take the 'hole' package. Right, Champ.

Oh BTW how was the evening last Friday? Were you able to empty enough beer bottles to practice your stroke? ...lol

lol :) i emptied a few too many i believe, then some kid who was on the same practice routine as i was decided my coat belonged to him lol and he received a life lesson

Here is another tip! if you cant shoot off the rails with 100% confidence, that's a big sign your stroke is flawed and needs to be fixed.

and for the others, i know if i dont hit the aim point i will miss or if i dont chalk i will miss cue and if some steals my cue i wont have one to play with or if the hall closes i will have no table.

A good check is to freeze the ob and cb to the same rail and make those shots. Doesn't work if the rails aren't perfectly straight.
