running racks

Hello all, I have been going through some difficulty lately I seem to run the racks on somedays very consitently but other days it seems like I make one simple error about every rack. Has anyone have any clue what I am talking about. I believe that everyone must go through it to become better. Can anyone give me feedback on their troubles and how they got through it. I am playing on very tought equipment with 3 7/8 inch corner pockets and 4 inch side pockets. But I do run out somedays consitently on it and other days just have trouble running out period. NO BREAK AND RUNS JUST THROWING THE BALLS ON THE TABLE AND TAKING BALL IN HAND.

I would see what your performance is on a table with regular sized pockets before you get concerned, because 3 7/8 inch doesn't allow much room for error. I know that some days my shotmaking isn't allows in the heart of the pocket. On your table I would think I would have a rough time as well
By the way after watching the US Open and the World Championships which play on tables with 4.5 the pros had some rough misses too. But I would recomend going over your fundamentals to see if there is something your forgetting to do if your methodical player. If not I would put the idea of missing out of your mind by concentrating on the ball your about to pocket or take a 20 min break if neccessary. Develop a short memory for misses, thats what every pro has told me.

Regards

I go through this time to time, one day i ran ten racks, ten racks. It was unbelieveable and this was playing with people not just throwing balls on the table and taking ball in hand. Then the next day i couldn't do it, the table wide open no clusters perfect routes what they call it "A Map". And i screwed it up almost everytime, just like in another post what me and Pete was talking about, i can't feel the speed of the shot when there is only a little distance for the cueball to be in to get a shot. When i practice all i do is practice on making a true stroke and shot making abilities. So from now on i am going to practice on this, Speed. But i feel your pain, and hope you work through it. Cole.

There are a million reasons for this. I have the same problem. I'm either out or I am one ball away from getting out if there aren't any problem balls.

Are you playing too tight? Stop thinking and just let yourself play the game.

Jumping up. Stay down watch the ball go in the hole or the cueball. Focus on every shot.

Maybe you need to work on your position routes. Makes shape a lot easier.

Maybe you're making stupid mistakes that could be corrected by just looking at the shot from a few different angles

Maybe you need to be just a little bit more accurate in your speed control. I notice when I focus on being as accurate as possible I shoot the best.

Maybe you need to quit drinking so much.

I suggest you take two weeks off. Then you should quit (j/k). But what do I know I have the same exact problem. If you figure this one out let me know. It would be worth a pretty penny.

Some days the balls just run tougher...but if you keep working hard and reduce human error, you can fight through these tough runs more quickly.

Also seems to me you are looking at the forest instead of the trees a bit. Perhaps you shuld just take a note of the errors you make in position and potting and work hard on those shots so that you'll break down less often.

Don't worry about it, you have to go thru plateaus like this to keep on improving. I'd suggest keeping a notepad with you while practicing. Take down some of your thoughts, and reasons why your runs are stopping. When you get home go over the notes. When I did this, the reasons my runs stopped were'nt the reasons I expected. Anyway....good luck with it....Gerry

With my game, I have noticed that little things can throw me off a bunch... for example... after eating, I can't play very well for a while (like 2 hours)... if I wear the wrong shoes, I will miss more... even when I cut my fingernails, I miss a bit more.

This might be due to factors like that, but I am thinking you just need to develop more concentration and put more pressure on yourself. You might get mentally lazy because you are practicing. Pressure yourself up a bit during practice. Make it life or death for running out the balls. You will get more success that way.

Running racks isn't a simple thing to do, as we all know. Getting past the simple errors is your challenge & mine.

I believe this.... if you are used to running racks, you will develop a certain "frame of mind". If you consistently err, somewhere in the middle, that will plague your thoughts.

I was a runout player last year, I would sometimes run 2-3 racks, often. I absolutely loved Ring Games. Then I hurt my hand real bad, went through 6 months of playing badly. My hand has healed, but my mind hasn't. Now I'm back struggling with getting out again. I'm 63 & play on big tables.
