I was looking at some of the posts the other day, like I usually do, and I ran across this particular name and it caught my eye. The post read, Vince "Pancho," Carelli, Hustler Extraordinaire." I was very curious, so I took a look.
The first thing written, in the post, was interesting and clever. It was a scram Vince probably pulled off in many a pool-room or bar. With a name such as, Hustler Extraordinaire," I'm sure old Vince pulled off many a scam.
Later in the post I read, Vince was making close to seventy thousand a week at one time. But his hustling scams took over and eventually he went belly-up.
It was later revealed Vince died broke.
A fact of life a lot of the so-called great hustler's have endured. How long can they maintain their talents or keep a fresh flock of suckers around?
I used to tell a friend of mine, that was always searching for the ever elusive, "Big Score." "Frankie, you do great tile work. Get a steady job, and before you know it, you'll have the big score you're always looking to make." Frankie left town and I haven't seen him in years. Hopefully, he didn't end up like Vince, and many others.
