I just got a call today from Mark "Donut Man" Ford from Baltimore who told me that Don Gibson passed away a short time ago.

Anybody who's frequented the Maryland pool scene knows of Don Gibson. He was a main fixture on the circuit for as long as I can remember. I always admired his long ponytail. He was an old-school player who had a whole lot of game. Many a road player would come to Baltimore and left with empty pockets after meeting up with Don. He wasn't afraid of anybody on a field of green. He was one of Maryland's finest and most definitely one of pool's unsung heroes.

The first night of the Super Billiards Expo earlier this year, Don and his buddies were in one of the practice rooms which housed a bunch of 7-foot Diamond tables. The place was packed, and every table was going. He was trying to get in stroke for the big event. Keith and I had just arrived, and Keith wanted to get tuned up himself for the tough competition up ahead. Don invited Keith on over to his table, and the two of them played a few sets. He is one of those players who enjoyed banging balls hour after hour. He loved the game.

The Donut Man is starting up his BCA League team this week, and this year they are going to have a tribute in Don's memory. They want to go to Vegas and win it for Don Gibson. He will be sorely missed.
