Sad realization!!

I was at the FL event last weekend and:

You know, players meeting @ 12: play begins at 1:00.
I was hanging with Julio for what seemed like forever. I had to say goodnight at 3:00AM to get some sleep.
Came back the next morning and He had just finished his last match at 9:45 AM. My bud Adam was still freaking playing and playing until God Knows when it ended last night. That is almost 2 full days with no sleep.
If you are not the top dog, then you did it for peanuts. $300 was the last spot paid out.
I tried to put this in some sort of perspective and all I came up with is:
What now? IT is a fun game, you work your ass off to get up to a certain level that is unattainable unless you quit work and just play (with a coach as well). Even then there is no guarantee. I don’t think the pros have health or life insurance not sure about retirement either.
I think I need to take some time off and think about my time invested in this game and what I can get out of it. As of now it just seems to be a big giant hole that I am throwing countless hours and heaps of cash into with no return.
I think I need a break for a while.
Overall the tournament I thought was awesome I met some really cool people

Chen Le Men, (is a freaking comedian and surprised to hear his accent)
Richard Broumpton (very good guy as well, if I don’t quit pool he is going to be my next coach)
And Tony Crosby (he was very nice) it was a pleasure to meet him for sure.

I think the tournament at Hammerheads is going to be a lot more comfy with 24 diamonds and seating room.

They did that to us at Wally's last month. The room owner opted to turn a 2 day event into one so the final match was played at 11:00 a.m. the next morning after playing through out the night. Sometimes I think this game boils down to survival of the fittest. The younger players do have an advantage.
The talent at the Florida Pro event was superb as usual, it is inspiring and I couldn't wait to play the next day. I was able to get some autographs on cue balls for prizes for my kids qualifier. Your right Tony Crosby is really nice, so was Steve Moore!
Too bad I didn't get to meet you PROG8R.

I think there are easier ways to earn money than playing pool.

I did and as usual I was thoroughly disgusted. He was playing a kid named Mike Dechain. Earl was talking crap telling the kid that he (the kid) was better than him. Raking the balls, complaining and his typically embarrassing behavior. I was so happy that Mike didn't crumble under the pressure. He faltered some, but recovered and put Earl out of the tournament. As I mentioned I was getting autographs for my kids qualifer and I didn't go near Earl. I was afraid he would yell at me. He is subject to go off just because. It is very sad that someone with so much talent, acts like that!

I am interested in hearing how Earl played. Either of you guys watch his matches?

Earl was definitely a card. LOL

He seemed to be playing just fine until he met David Broxon. In that match he basically quit, he must have raked 5-6 racks off the table if he missed even one shot (I am not talking about 1 or 2 balls, 5,6,7 left just getting pulled back). Then he went off on something about the people in the chairs making the table too humid to play. I don’t know. He lost his last match to Michael Dachine (sp), they were hill-hill, but then again he gave a few games away the same. After the Broxon match I thought they might get into it, but it fizzled really fast. He kept saying that if he beat Broxon that he would have been the bad guy and then he would be mad at him, but he lets him win and he is still mad at him. LOL
Earl really is a nice guy, but I think he has a few cogs loose up stairs after all these years.

Agreed, it would have been nice to meet you as well. I am sure we sill sooner or later.
I was sitting with David Broxon and wathing the Louis Viera match with Tony and trying to keep up with the Earl and Mike match, when it was over the crowd cheered and David asked who won, I said I think the kid did because the crowd doesnt cheer for Earl, he says "OH YEAH THATS RIGHT".
How good did Mike Destafano play? WOW! he was on fire, did who beat who in the Tony / Mike match? I know Adam must have beaten one of those two after that.

Was it this guy?

Was it this Mike Dechaine?

yes it was! I was impressed with him keeping his wits about him.

Mike took off the Open Amateur event at Valley Forge this year.
