Safety Play at the IPT

Just for those that wanted to know about safety battles jand such at the 8-ball championships, there weren't any.

There wasn't a single safety played in the finals, and I don't recall seeing one at the final matches of the final groupings (Manalo/Reyes, Bustamante/Immonen). I couldn't see what was happening with Archer/Varner, but I'd only seen Nick play one safety the entire time I was there, and I didn't see Archer play one during the Archer/Manalo match in the Mothership.

What made the games interesting was watching the pros thinking out their patterns, going for the "wrong" pattern, and either getting miracle pro outs, or getting burned by their choices.

I am glad to hear that the pros are making the same mistakes that I do. I guess that I am not as bad as I thought.

A buddy of mine told me a long time ago that the only reason you should lose is if you miss the shot that you planned on making. He was right. The reason that I lose is because I feel that I can run out and then miss the shot.
It seems as if I have the false confidence that I can make a shot instead of playing it safe. This is probably what is happening to the pros.

THis is interesting. You always hear that in 8-ball is a strategy game. never go for the runout unless you're pretty sure you can make it, otherwise, sink a ball or two, and play safe, repositioning your balls and tying up theirs. I always wondered how much strategy this pros use. I guess they figure they can run any 8-ball table, which isn't that surprising.
