Sanding/Polishing Station...

Here's a little project I've been working on for a few weeks! A sanding/polishing station with a downdraft box, variable speed direct drive motor, back splash that will also serve as a home for a papertowl rack- sandpaper rack & polishing compounds. I can hook up my shop vac to the down draft box via hole under tail stock (delrin in place in photo to show where the hose goes). It has 4" between center and back draft top and up to about 34" between centers!

I still need to do a little touch up sanding and add a clear coat over it to help protect it. Also plan to put a small plexiglass piece as the backsplash (easier to keep clean over time).

Just thought I'd share a lil with you all.

nah, I'd just use a drilled/tapped 13" or so maple dowel and put both between centers... where's there's a will, there's a way!

It's a pretty basic design, a lil creativity, Taig parts and time is all you need!

I will be putting a few of these together for others and selling them on my website. More details to come!

Always amazing to see the creativity of our members. Hope everyone's doing well. I've been down with some health issues for a couple of weeks and catching up on AZ today. Have a great weekend!

Here's a setup I use for sanding , except now I run my hose to the outside so no dust is left to settle ... Works like a dream ...;)DSC01696.jpg

The Taper Machine is going thru some design adjustments and am still looking at material sources and fabrication companies.

More details as they come up!

WOW! I can't believe all the calls, PM's and emails I've been getting for this Sanding & Finishing Station! Thanks to everyone!

I've finished calculating parts and labor hours and have come up with a couple price versions. The station in the photos is the prototype and adjustments will be made on future stations. No back splash, using a 1/2 hp variable speed reversible motor and ability to add a foot control for wraps and hands free power. Looks like 3-4 weeks for completion, I work a full time job, part time league operator, a wife and 4 kids... time is hard to find around my house- lol!

Sanding & Finishing Station
With the Sanding & Finishing Station you can hook up your vacuum hose to the downdraft box and sand shafts and butts while sucking the dust down into the box, buff and polish shafts and butts, install irish linen wraps with the aid of a foot control and the variable speed reversible motor, apply a brush on or rub on clear coat finish while slowly rotating your cue, spray on your clear coat and slowly rotate the finish.

Basic- $690.00 + S&H
Comes with ½ hp DC variable speed reversible motor, tailstock with keyless chuck, headstock with 3 jaw chuck, downdraft box, 60 degree live center, delrin female maintenance kit (3/8-10, 5/16-14, 5/16-18), shaft sealer.

Advanced- $790.00 +S&H
Comes with Basic Station plus foot control, 5 step polishing compound, 3M wet/dry sandpaper and plexi-glass protective cover for downdraft box.

Check out my website for more details and photos! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to PM or post it here.

Thanks,
Zim
