i used to use sandpaper on my old cue to make the shaft smooth. I like the way sandpaper makes my shaft feel. So I just bought a used joss cue. I was wondering if using the sandpaper on my shaft will cause any problems? Warpage in future, or just any other problems. Any information would be helpful. Thanks again

Sandpaper will not cause warpage, but it will slowly wear your shaft down. It takes away wood, every time you use it. Of course, you don't mention what grade of sandpaper you are using. The courser the grade, the faster you will wear the shaft down.

I'm not saying not to use the sandpaper, but obtain the finest grade you can get. There are also a number of other products that are finer than most sandpapers and do the job very well.

I'm sure others have used some of the other products made to make your cue shaft smooth and slide easily, but I have not used them and I will not comment on them.

Sandpaper makes your shaft slick because it covers it with wood dust. If you can properly condition it, and keep your hands and cue nice and clean, you should be able to get it nice and smooth without having to sand it regularly.

Once you've used sandpaper to get it smooth then keep it clean with a solvent cleaner, a Magic Eraser, or Cue Clean. Then after each use burnish it with leather to keep it shined and smooth. No need to ever sand it again .... if you take care of it.
