To be or not to be "MASTER"

Chad Elston and Troy Miley are WIBCA State Masters

The Board has recommended adding Klages to the Master

Chad Elston and Troy Miley are WIBCA State Masters

And that's only because it is a difficult task to keep up with everyone fairly.

Chad placed 4th out of 40 in the AA 8-ball in 2008 and 4th in a combined A/AA 9-ball and 9th - 12th in AA 8-ball in 2009. No other tourney wins around the country that I've heard of so far. Why did he get moved? The local league operator hasn't moved him up. In fact, he went 2-n-out the last 3 big tourneys that I have seen him play.

Troy was on the master list due to his being on the national master list. However, he played three times in the nationals with no cash and has been removed from the national master list. He played the open division this past May and did not place high enough to be moved back up. Has he won anything else that I don't know about? You tell me.

Those guys are both good AA players. But to the people that don't know them all it takes is one good stroke shot to be scared. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Everyone deserves to have a good tourney or two. If you perform consistently then you also deserve to be moved up in class.

You have qualified your placements with the national master list.
You have also stated known ability, so who you let in the Beloit
tourneys is fine. Some state masters are allowed to play.

Jeremey has stated no state or national masters are allowed.
There is where the difference is.

I was referring to state masters.

Troy was on the state list and should be moved off. Does he need to fill out a form? Maybe so. Based on performance he should be AA in Wisconsin.

So Chad finished 4th in '08 and finished lower at 9th in 2009 and he gets moved up? Who chose to move him up? I'll say right now that the rating process has good interntions but is clearly flawed in this case. You simply cannot vote to move any player up because you "think" he might be better. Let them prove themselves. Based on performance, Chad should also be AA in Wisconsin.

So are they on the state list now? Yes. Should they be on the list? I say clearly the answer is "no".

Rankings

FYI, In the WIBCA State tourney last year Chad finished higher than me in both 8ball and 9ball, in which he beat me, and I was also moved up from AA to Master. Not real happy about it, for whatever that is worth.
