As an individual that used to work in the South Plainfield area, I feel it is almost my duty to give you folks some info about the area.
First, my favorite place to go is the Brickhouse. This place is off exit 5 of 287, which is stelton road when heading toward NY from the expo center. If heading from NJ TP, its exit 4 which will lead you to Stelton (Just GPS Brickhouse and you will find it) and is right by a Kohl's and other shopping in the area. If you are looking to save some money, right around the corner from here is White Castle, as well as a five guys.
For those that are a little more frugal, there is a saladworks, applbees, chipotle, etc, and a shoprite 2 minutes from the Brickhouse. I am not too familiar with Somerset, I am sure there are things over there too, but I have not been there. These are places that I have no issues with, which is what I felt to be the important part.
For the die hards, I know you may not even leave the expo center or the hotel you are in, so this may not apply to you. But, I do have friends from up there, and if there is a question on food or watering hole outside of the expo, feel free to pm me and I will try to point you in a direction.
