If you utilize criminal process to resolve a civil dispute, be prepared to forego further civil action because using criminal process to resolve a civil dispute can create astonishing civil liability -- YOURS. Folks fall into this trap again, and again, and again. Just trust me, or go see a lawyer, or do a little research on your own. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with getting the asshole who wrote you a bad check arrested, but problems arise when you start negotiating to drop charges in return for getting your money. Seems perfectly reasonable, but, in the eyes of the law, it is not.It is not a local Police issue though, because it was not a local crime. It would be like reporting a crime to a local police department that happened outside of the city's city limits, when you should be reporting it to the sheriff's department, of the County that the crime happened in.
In this case, I imagine it should be reported to the Fraud department of the FBI, or maybe the US Postal Inspector Mail Fraud department. Surely not the local police though.
I could go on and on, but I ain't. Y'all have been warned.
