Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your input in my 100-150 dollar cue thread. After some thought, I'm thinking of going with this Schmelke:

http://www.billiardwarehouse.com/cues/schmelke/schmelke_m2b.htm

Before I make the purchase, I'd like to ask if any of you have had experience with this cue or if you have any opinions on Bocote wood. Two months ago, I would've picked this up in heartbeat, but after spending some time here, I know different types of wood, pins, and joints produce a different hit.

Is Bocote known to be a good wood for a cue? (I've read some horror stories about exotic woods producing a poor hit.) Should I stick to a more traditional wood: maple, cocobolo, etc?

Also, are Schelmke's sneakies known to better than the M series?

I know I'm getting particular, but you can blame this forum for that :D

Thanks.

don't really know much about schmelke, but bacote is considered one of the more traditional woods, not so much an exotic. it is very commonly used. there are a bunch of really good threads concerning woods in the ask the cue maker section. try runnign a search for wood of the week or WoW.

i can say this about thier cues though, they use a 13mm 12" pro taper which will produce a very firm solid hit. for a bit of comparison, thats about the same taper/size as schon and meucci pre/red dot used a 12.75mm 15-16" pro taper.

There's another series that they have, the new BR series, that for some reason Billiardwarehouse has not yet put up on their website. They will order it for you, however.

You can see it on the schmelkecues.com website. I think the butt has a slightly slimmer butt and the shaft may have a different taper.

I might consider that over the M series, but you probably can't go wrong with either.

I have had a Schmelke jump/break cue for about 2 months now and I love it....It is cocobolo and it is sharp looking and feels and hits and jumps great.....I got it from Billiardware house, you can see it on their web site.....
