Schon Break Cue Question

I've been a Schon fan for years so I decided to break down and grab one of their JB3 jump/break cues. The things hits like a hammer but my question is the second joint is a wooden threaded shaft and I keep finding wood shavings, how long do these type of joints typically last with metal being threaded into wood?

Comments from an old P. Engineer.: Thirty years ago when two piece snooker cues came out they mostly had wood to wood joints and many are still being used today. However, your cue is a break cue and the loads transmitted through the joints are enormous compared to snooker shots.

There must be some movement in the joint if you keep finding wood shavings. Basically, I feel a "wood to metal" joint is wrong for a break cue where you need absolute rigidity. Suggest you have a cue smith remove the wooden portion and replace it with metal or a phenolic joint. I suggest you take corrective action before it's too late.

I don't recommend modifying that cue in any way.
Unless of course you want to kill the value.

The wood shavings will stop once they're all out or the pin is finished cutting.
If it gets too bad send it back to Schon for a new one.

One modification would be to have a phenolic insert installed into the shaft and have it retapped.
Personally I like 3/8-10 shafts with phenolic inserts
