Schon cues & McDermott I-2 shafts

I am seeking feedback from players who have adopted McDermott's I-2 shaft to their Schon cues. Did you have any issues with proper fit to your cue? Are you happy with the response your getting from the shaft? I am considering ordering an I-2 shaft for my own Schon, and would like to hear from players who done so before me.

I shoot with a Schon CX-06 with a McDermott I-3 shaft. I am very happy with the fit of the shaft matching the butt. But what is way more important is the feel of the hit and the accuracy of striking the cue ball with a 11.75mm tip diameter. I'm also a fan of a small ferrule. A few years ago I purchased a used McDermott I-2 here on the forum and really liked it. I used it for about a year and then ran across a used I-3 (also here on this forum). I've used the I-3 since then. A big plus on using a McDermott I-series shaft is their maintenance program. They'll clean the shaft, reseal it and then install a new Moori tip at no cost. You do have to pay a $21 shipping and handling fee, but that's about what a new Moori tip would cost anyway. By the way, I did borrow a friends OB-2 shaft and played with it for about a week. I didn't notice any difference in performance compared to the I-3 but the maple ferrule on the OB-2 was distracting to me. Good luck in your quest for a good shaft.

The balance of the cue will change, that was my experience. Lost that forward balance.

OK, interesting. I thank you all for your information. It gives me something to consider in my decision making.

I don't have any experience with Schon / I-2 marriage. I tried I-2 and it was by far my least favorite "LD" shaft experiments. Not what I would define as a LD shaft...too much squirt for my liking. Also was light and effected overall balance of cue.

I have 4 First Gen Preds and would not swap for the life of me unless someone provided a better experience (yes I have tried them all). If I had to I would try the Mezz WD700.

Nick
