Is there anyone that has a schon joint and can measure the black rings for me?? I need to customize a Predator shaft and do not have one to measure in my shop at this time.

I know I made these notes years ago but just can't find 'em....old age perhaps??

Much Appreciated,
Nike

.125 and .250
My mistake, I had to put my magnifiers on and I also used a steel rule against it.
My eyes don't work that well when I squint.

I put my calipers on them and just to be 100%, I also put a rule against them.

1/8th and 1/4 inch = .125 and .250
Altho, I could be wrong as I'm rather new at this measuring stuff.

Those ARE the exact measurements with a .030" silver btwn, them.

Pancerny,
Are you going to incorporate the Schon pilot on this shaft?
If so, you're going to need more measurements.

Hi KJ,

You are right that I need more measurements, fortunately my senility has left the part of my brain intact that remembered the OD is .835. I called Evan the other day to ask him the OD on the pilot, he told me .530. I usually make it .532 and then the wood compresses the first time it pout together so it's a nice snug compression fit for the last couple of turns.

I turned 41 this year and seem to be forgetting everything...thank goodness for good notes.

Best to all,
Mike

Hi Mike,
How's life in the big "D"? I left there in 1980.
Senility at 41 huh? I'll be 62 in March and there's times I can't remember what day it is.
Anyway, it's good that you called Evan. Nothing like getting your info straight from the horse's mouth. Those are the same dimensions that I use.
The only other thing that I would offer is that if you want to duplicate the Schon shaft exactly, it would require a 'capped' end ring (phenolic) and form your pilot from that. In that case, the pilot needs to EXACTLY .530".
.531" and your client ain't going to like it.

Take Care Homey, KJ
