Im wondering if the Schon and Joss joints are interchangeable. I bought a schon shaft on ebay, would a joss butt work?

if so, how bought old and new models?
 
There not quite the same,

My Joss shafts will work on my friends Schon, its a high end early 90s model
But his shafts wont begin to thread on my Joss Butt. 5/16 x 14
 
My Schon shafts will thread onto my joss butt until the insert hits the joint. The brass insert on the Schon shaft is a lttle too big for the Joss joint. My OB shafts will interchange just fine between both as the brass insert is sized smaller for the Joss.
 
I have a joss sneaky with a pred 314 shaft and my shon shafts will fit it there is room for the shon insert to fit .

I play wih a shon but use a 13mm or very near 13 mm stndard mezz shaft (mikki joint) it fits tighter on my shon than the shon shafts do and it is a better shaft ( it just hits better than the shon shafts - perhaps it is the tip).

You cannot put the shon shafts on the mezz cues because of that fat insert on the shon shafts and probably not other similar joints 5 / 16 14.
 
Schon pins are slightly smaller than true 5/16x14. You can get your shaft tapped to fit the Joss butt but it will not fit if the schon shaft has not been modified.

Yes, they are both piloted 5x16x14 and are interchangable. it may not be a perfect fit meaning there may be a lip at the joint but other than that they are similiar.

I have over 100 of each of these cues in stock and they screw together no problem. the only problem is on some you can feel the collar where they are jointed together.

Since I have both Joss and 3 Schons I can tell you dont know what you are talking about. My Schon shafts will screw onto the Joss butt only until it hits the fat Schon pilot and thats it

What he said - the schon shaft won't seat flush because the insert on the schon is bigger in diameter. I can't get a schon shaft to fit anything but a schon butt - period.
 
Well it sounds like the Shon shafts may fit on some Joss Butts - the Sneaky I have was sold by Seyberts a few yrs ago ( they were introducing the 314 pred and were matching it to different butts Mcdermottt, Joss etc. )- and the way it is constructed you can screw a shon shaft onto it all the way - it will take fatter shon pilot.

What a coincidence! I just finished a couple hours ago with Steve Lomax solving this problem. Chuck is right as rain. The schons piloted nipple is bigger in diameter than the Joss.

Steve machined the schon nipple to the same size as the joss and now the schon will fit. Take your Joss shaft and schon shaft to a good cue maker and he should be able to take care of it.

If you don't have access to one call Steve Lomax. Better yet if you need a second shaft he has one for sale and could turn it down to the joss diameter and send it to you.
