"Schon" pronunciation

How is "Schon" correctly pronounced when it refers to the cue brand? Most people pronounce it equivalently with "Sean/Shawn," however this is not the correct German pronunciation which should roughly rhyme with "earn."

How does the owner of the company pronounce it? How do German speakers pronounce it?

From my understanding, it's pronounced the same as "Shown" however, you are correct. The proper pronunciation would be something like shoon (if I can still recall what my German teacher would tell us).
 
I've always heard it pronounced so that it rhymes with "on". It's written with an umlaut, meaning in German it would almost rhyme with "earn", but I've never heard anyone pronounce it that way when referring to the cue company.

Being in Minnesota, "o"s are usually pronounced as you would say the letter "o".

You pronounce Bjork Byerk, but you say the 'yerk' part fast and the emphasis is on the 'ye' sound. So for example, it doesn NOT rhyme with Buerk, or Burke.

As for the above's relevance, i'm not too sure. Anyway, there is a handy eight page discussion here which should either create even more questiones as to it's pronounciation or answer some.

As of a couple of minutes ago, it's pronounced Shawn per the kind folks at Schon.

I sent them an email asking for the correct pronunciation. They did mention that it was incorrect in German.
 
I've always pronounced it "Shawn".

Glad it was cleared up that that's how it's pronounced. Now if we could get you people to pronounce "Karaoke" the right way I'd be tickled pink. You know, we make fun of Japanese people for the way they pronounce our words and then we turn around and butcher theirs just as bad.

What is incorrect in German? In German, the Sch is pronounced as "sh", and the "?" is pronounced like in "turn".

Of course, since they gave themselves the name, it's their right to pronounce it any way they like. So, did they decide that they don't pronounce it in the german way, or did they decide that the german pronounciation should be different? ;-)

HA!!! To the rest of us who actually can pronounce an "o," you guys in Minnesota pronounce an "o" like we pronounce "ah."

All ribbing aside, one of the obvious problems that I've discussed here ad nauseum is that when someone says, "it's pronounced like Shawn" or whatever, every part of the country pronounces "Shawn" differently from Shone to Shaaaaaaaahn. It should be no coincidence that that's the broad spectrum that people pronounce Schon as well.

Call them up. You'll here how Evan Clarke pronounces it. Like someone from Northern California or Western (not Eastern) Massachusetts pronounces Shawn. Not like someone from Chicago, upstate New York, or Dallas pronounces Shawn.

Marcus would know how to pronounce the proper German way. Thing is, Schon Cues don't pronounce it the proper German way. That's what Evan Clarke is saying, I believe.

So, this question now passes the Men vs. Women thread as far as most popular "new thread."

Some say it's [shone]. Other say it's [shawn]. And then there are some who say it's [shern]. :D

I always point to Hillbilly Bryant who pronouces Shawn Putnam's name as "Shone."

I have tree schons...all from the same tree... they are in the trunk of my caaa...
