Schon STL17 Identification please

I need help identifying this cue and shaft I bought on ebay last week.

I did send an email to the address listed on the Schon cues website, but I am hoping the internets (you guy's) will be able to help as well.

The masterpiece is a Schon STL17 in all it's glory, except for the following:

-joint is a little pitted (hard to tell from the picture)
-bottom screw is a bit rusted
-joint (where it makes contact with shaft) is a bit flaked
-the shaft is "unknown" and does not fit the butt perfectly. it is a hair larger in diameter. Just enough to feel it.
-the shaft ring is wider and not as polished than the rings on the butt
-there's a coat of varnish throughout the shaft, which makes it stick/play like a Walmart cue unless you wear a glove (which I don't like to do)

Here's my questions I am hoping some of the fine cue wizards here can help me with;
-What would be the year/era of the butt given how the "S" of Schon is made and no accent on the "o"
-Is the shaft possibly a Schon, but from another cue at one point of time?
-Given that current condition of incorrect but good shaft; what would you price it at? (I know what I paid, just curious of opinions)

Thanks!

Schon

Pretty sure it was made between 1994-1995 also the metal insert in the bottom of the shaft doesn't look right. I would say it's not a schon shaft.

Beautiful cue! The pin isn't an ACME pin, so likely post '93...if prior to '93, then it'd likely have a different ST or SL identification/model number. The umlaut missing on the Schon might be due to wear (can't tell from the photo), they weren't embossed very deep. My STL17 is a '93, the Schon is embossed in gold, not black. The edge of my buttcap seems a little more squared off, not as bevelled on the edge, but that might just be the angle of the photo. The first interior veneer on your cue looks like ivory; those were usually colored veneers like the red one in my photo...but no two STL17s that I've ever seen were alike, they vary in color and wood finish.

The "pitting" you describe on the joint...if it's the black discoloration on the face of the SS joint color, that's just residue from dirt and the implex/black joint color on the shaft. That will clean right off with mild detergent and elbow grease. I sometimes scrape it off with a pocket knife.

I agree, the shaft doesn't look original, the brass insert isn't right...some of the extrusion should show wood below the brass and a more rounded bevel on the brass. Looks like a quality shaft, though.

One of my favorite Schon models!

Late 93-98 was the time frame for the S that looks like it came off a piece of sheet music from what I recall.... However unless the shaft is newer it is not a 93... The 93 Shafts had Schon 13 on the ring work..... The late 93s also had the pin pictured which is different than the early 93s which had a different pin and different S.... SO late 93-98 unless you can verify the Shaft as original which would move it to 94-98 Unless I am mistaken about the funky S years of use.....
