Could someone help me with how scoring works in 8-Ball and 9-Ball with teams? It would need to be a scoring system that includes something like 7 games. It will be a league that runs 10 weeks.

Please help. Thank you.

Teams or partners?

The most common way partners pool is played is called scotch doubles. With scotch doubles the partners alternate shots.Scoring is the same as singles.

hey!

It would be teams consisting of 2 players. Each league will have 4 teams and the league would run 10 weeks.

I've read that scoring 8-ball is 1 point per ball, meaning 8 points for the winner. 1 point also added for each opponent's ball left.

For 9-ball how does the scoring work? 1 point for each ball and 2 points for the 9-ball?

How does it work if in a game of 8-ball , the 8 ball is hit in? How do you score that? In 9-ball if you hit in the wrong ball, how do you score that?

Thank you!

You got the 9-ball right.8-ball would be 10 points per win and 1 point per ball for the losings player/team.

ok, sorry im so confused. i'm really trying to make a league work. i appreciate your help.

if a team of 2 played a team of 2 in 8-ball and went for 7 games....

scoring would be 10 points to the team who wins each game, plus 1 point for each ball left by the opponent.

in 9-ball, the team gets 1 point per ball and 2 points for the 9 ball.

How do penalties affect scoring?

In a game of 8-ball, if the team hits in the 8-ball - how is scoring awarded to the opponent? The same? 10 points and 1 point for each opponent ball?

In 9-ball if the player hits in the higher seed, is the point awarded to the opponent?

I hope I'm making sense. Thank you very much.

You typically will just score wins and losses in doubles play.

In 8 ball if you make the 8 out of turn it is a loss. Also I f you foul and pocket the 8 it is normally a loss except on the break.

I did not ask if you want to use a handicap system in your league. Handicapped leagues use scoring such as 1 point per ball.If it is not a handicapped league then you can just go with wins and losses.

You will need the advice or help of a pool player in your area.Running a pool league or even a business where the main focus is pool requires an experienced pool player or someone who has been around the game for some time.

Instead of re-inventing the wheel, how about take a look at APA, BCAPL, TAP, NAPL, and other leagues for rulebooks, scoring and handicapping. If you sanction your league with BCAPL, you can get access to leaguesys, online software to input and keep score.

Despite the bashing that goes on here, APA rules and scoring seems to work for the majority of the 250K weekly players.
