Scoring systems for pool games

I'd like to know what other apparatuses are out there to use for scoring pool games. On some of the older Accu-Stat tapes you can see where they had plastic pool balls on a string (just like the beads you see everywhere now), are these available anywhere? It seems like the only item out there is the beads? Obviously there are pen and paper/apps on your phone/ etc. but I am looking for something like they used on the TV matches. I know there is a wanted forum but I thought there might be more traffic in here. Plus I am just looking at options, not necessarily purchasing.

If you are keeping track of games (not points), you can use practice golf balls (basically tiny whiffle balls) on a string. You can even mix white and orange ones to delineate common races 5, 7, 11, etc.

I was thinking about putting together a scoring system using light bulbs and the binary system to keep the number of bulbs needed to a minimum.

A race to 7 will only use 3 bulbs for each player. 4 bulbs would score up to 15 games.

The idea was scrapped after thinking about explaining binary to all the players.

There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

:-)

Curious what is wrong with the old standard 50 bead strings like pretty much every good pool room in the country uses. It works very well for any game and just adds a bit to the atmosphere of your home room.
