Not sure if anyone has been following the Scottish Open? Thought I'd start a thread about it both because it's in the local club that I play in, but also because it's always got a fairly strong field due to being close to the UK Open.
Aloysius Yapp, Jonas Souto, Pijus Labutis, Felix Vogel, Moritz Neuhausen, Robbie Capito, Arseni Sevastyanov and AJ Manas all playing in it.
In terms of local players the main interest is Jayson Shaw (whose sister owns the club) and Elliot Sanderson who is the club pro. Scott Gillespie is another good local player, but not sure how much nine ball he plays, mainly associate him with UK 8 ball (he's won an Ultimate Pool event amongst countless other honours at that discipline).
None of the really big names from the USA have entered this year (Gorst, Oscar, SVB, Tyler Styer have played in the past, Oscar was even runner up). Though Paul Song, Nathan Childress, Kevin Groesbeck, Raymond Linares all flying the American flag.
It's double elimination which is lucky for Sevastyanov and who lost in the first round. Moritz suffered a heavy defeat (10-1 to Sullivan Clark) in the second round. Actually got my photo with him just after the match and he was kind enough to still smile for it. Had been watching another match and didn't appreciate the score when I asked him. Felt bad when I realised.
Jayson Shaw has had a couple of rough draws, he beat AJ Manas in the 2nd round and has to play Labutis in the next round who looked phenomenal beating Vogel 10-1 in the previous round.
