Scratched balls...

I've been ready the discussion in the main forum about cleaning aramith super pro balls. By buffing out small scratches in the balls, using an abrasive wax/polish, aren't you actually "wearing" down the ball to the depth of the scratch in order to remove it? These perfectly balanced balls (super pros/centennials) are now now no longer perfectly balanced then because we are wearing down certain random spots where the scratches are. No chance we might want to leave the scratches if they're small enough not to affect the roll rather than take more mass off the ball? I realize they just won't look as nice but is there any sense to what I'm saying?

(The wealth of info on this forum is really beyond incredible)

I use brillianize, it is a non-abrasive plastic polish works very well.

So therefore you think that abrasive waxes should not be used to "wear" down balls to remove scratches? That looks like good stuff btw...not only for pool balls.

yeah ....nothing abrasive and nothing that leaves a residue. You don't want to remove the original finish on the balls and you don't want wax on the balls that will influence play.

If the balls look like from a tavern the only way to bring them back is with abrasives. Not all abrasives will remove material. Aramith Restorer has an abrasive but its very fine plus very friable (it breaks down quickly). It has more of a burnishing effect like using the 2000 grit paper on your shafts. But yes on a personal set you may only get a couple of years before you've lost .5mm diameter.

Check out http://www.300ways.com/ The CB shown requires abrasives.
