Sealing a White Linen Wrap

I am refinishing a Meucci with a white linen wrap and I was wondering what is the best way to seal the wrap. I tried the finish cure epoxy but it soaks in and discolors the linen. Will CA do the trick? Should I use an accelerator? If so, should the accelerator be applied to the linen first? BTW, I am using finish cure and CA for finish.

Thanks, Brian

I don't mean to bust your chops but why would you take the job without knowing how to do it?

<~~Don't use CA glue.

It's not my first wrap, just my first white wrap. I have learned a lot from trying new things on my own.

I don't want to turn this into a keyboard pissing contest but if you "didn't mean to bust my chops" why did you even post your reply?

I posted because I wanted to see where you were. Now, I know.

Use a sanding sealer on the wrap. Move up in sand paper grits, getting the linen smoother each step. Seal it with your shaft sealer after each grit. Get down to 600ish, seal with sanding sealer, then use the epoxy. That should stop the discoloration.

Let me know how that works. If it doesn't, I will walk you through a different route.

Hi,
I noticed your comment and I bought a Meucci with a damaged wrap. It has a black wrap sealed in finish and there is a gouge in the wrap about two inches long and an eight wide. It' s deep but not all the way to through the wrap. Is there a way to fix it other than rewrap, or refinish?
How would you get the finish off without hurting the wrap? With a razor blade?
thanks, Bill

Its not worth the amount of work to remove the finish. I'd remove the old wrap and replace it.

That being said, sanding or a razor blade will work. The wrap will probably look grey so I'd run some black stain over it and seal it, if you want it smooth or burnish it to feel the linen.
