are you supposed to seal the inside threads to a shaft? say you tap a 3/8x10 shaft do you just stop there? or do you seal it with something to help protect the inside threads?

I fill the hole with urethane varnish and let it sit for about 15 minutes, then dump it out and let it drain. After it has dried I run the tap in again and then call it done.

I do basically the same thing. Over the years I have used from tung oil to super glue. I don't do it so much to seal but make the threads less likely to chip. I do it after I drill the hole before I tap and after I tap as well. I don't believe there is a right or wrong her. It falls into the category or "It can't hurt", so why not. Now though I use mostly radial pins so that is no longer a worry.
After tapping, fill the hole completely up with water thin super glue. Let soak at least ten minutes then go outside and sling it all out. It will surface harden the threads. You usually won't have to retap.
