Second- and Third-Generation Pool Players

It struck me during the recent World 14.1 that second generation pool players are quite rare. Yes there were the Schaefers in the 19th and early 20th century and Lou Butera's son is a player, but think of the Mannings in football, the Earnhardts and Pettys in Nascar, the Hills, Villeneuves, and Rosbergs in Formula One, the Griffeys and Wilsons in baseball, etc. Why don't pool-playing genes transmit across generations?

Maybe the kids don't want to be broke like their parents.

I believe Oscar Dominguez would qualify, as would Shane Van Boening and many others. Many good players now probably had pool playing parents, they just might not have been champions.

I was sitting next to Ernesto a bit ago while his son was playing, my son was sitting next to me so we were talking about my son really liking to play and some other things.

Ernesto said, "listen, the best thing to do, have your son play golf instead" LOL
