Are there any secrets or special methods out there that you want to share? Let us in on how you do certain things, pregame psychs, mind exercises, drills, etc... You might help someone out

The best thing is a great pre-shot routine, from aproaching the table to follow through. If my routine is on, then my game is on.

The Zone

9balldiva, I personally believe that there are three parts to the self. Mental, physical, and spiritual. When there is a balance between the three, you do your best, no matter what you are doing. If one is off, it throws the other two off and you don't do so well.
I have a friend who owns a clothing store. He once told me that when you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good , you do good.
I usually go play 1 pocket on Sundays. When I have my ol'ladys blessing, I do great. Kiss good bye, have a good time! If she has a case of the goonies, ie: you leaving me alone again, you didn't do this or that, I play bad. It is all related to the way I feel when I leave. Can you relate to any of this?

I am the same as Don, if I have a minor fight with my girl, or am stressed about work or finances or whatever, then I don't focus as well, unfortunately. If I had a great day at work, or received good news, then I do much better. If only my life was perfect , I could be a contender.

This is right on! I was just saying this today. If someone needs to be more consistent this is the key.

I just heard a sports/coaching psychology guy talking about the zone. It seems that no one knows how to turn it on intentionally. Maybe you can list things to avoid, but that's hard too. There are lots of example of players under severe outside stress who rise to new levels of performance in their sport -- maybe they are escaping from the other problems.

For the mental side of the game, I think a lot has been written that is either not helpful or just plain wrong. Some books have "mental game" chapters that are just yappy platitudes. Two books that have worked for me are Timothy Galwey's "The Inner Game of Tennis" and Bob Fancher's "The Pleasure of Small Motions."
