Anyone have photos of ebony nose, tulipwood back sneaky pete? I'm trying to envision what this would look like ... not sure if tulipwodd would overwhelm the ebony.

Also interested in hearing from cue makers on the wood combo. I'm pretty sure about getting ebony nose .. not sure of getting purpleheart or tulipwood for the handle.

I'm sure purpleheart is overwhelming choice of the mass but I like being different :D

i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it probably couldn't be called a sneaky with that wood combination. you gotta draw the line somewhere.

i think the only reason people call them Sneaky Petes or Hustlers has changed over the years... because way back when people loved having a cue that was plain as hell and had a nice shaft and looked like a house cue...
i think no matter what they are made out of these days.. wether really plain or really fancy.. they will always be called s petes or husters as a way to describe the cue.. not because it is one.. but it just gives everyone a basis to describe it...

And what are you smokin??????? Ebony and tulipwood is one of the prettier wood combinations that you can put together. i think the cue would look awesome but the blank would cost a bit. About 100 and up.

I agree ebony and tulipwood is a nice combo- But when I see that combo- Im thinking SW style 6pts, wrap, etc... not a sneaky pete.

This is the mirror image of the cue you were looking for. I started it a few months ago but now it is ready for completion.

If you need one with a Tulipwood Butt and an Ebony Forearm I will make it for you.

Good cuemaking,

Good cuemaking,

Jazz, I think this would actually be the better combination...as Mr Arnot has been so kind as to post an example of here. It would still look more in line with the s/p 'style'. Both woods are VERY dense...I bet this thing would hit like a monster!! :D

I agree with Tony that the ebony/tulipwood combo would look real nice but ONLY if the Brazilian Tulipwood is real dark and not the light colored stripey stuff. Not easy to find and is pricey. The tulipwood Arnot used in his photo looks good--he'd be the go-to guy on that!

Lisa, thanks but I already have a tulipwood nose cue from this unknown cuemaker. So I'm looking for someting different.

Another cuemaker sent me this photo, while it's not a full spliced cue, it gives some good idea what the final product may look like. Ain't it pretty? :D

Yes, it is pretty.:D I gotta agree with Martin, try and find that gorgeous Brazilian tulipwood, it is amazing!!!

On a related note: If I were to find a nice piece of the Brazilian tulipwood, what size would I need to make the butt section of a full splice, say, sneaky pete-type cue? Also, if purchased from a supplier like Gilmerwood, would this wood still need to be aged before turning?
