I have been wanting to get a 60" cue for a while and have narrowed down to a few cuemakers (Lebow - from Oregon like me, Bob Owen, maybe someone else) or a Jackson/Jacoby type cue. I imagine I'm probably looking around $500-600 for basic cue with a couple of rings from any of those makers (Ive priced a cue in the past).
Then I noticed Shmelke offers customizable length, tapers, shafts (basic, laminated +$20), wrap, tip diameters and I could basically build what I want for $150+shipping. I have shot one shmelke 60" cue and didn't care for it, but it was mainly because of the taper (that and I was playing with a players cue at the time, so I didn't know sh*t anyway). While I obviously won't be getting the same level of cue, it might hold me off for a few years until I was ready to build a custom and trick it out a bit. I play a predator P2 right now, so I could always fall ball on that. I have heard Shmelke has a really whippy shaft on a long cue, but their laminated shaft is $20 dollars more and is stiffer. I wouldn't go with an extra long pro taper or a narrow tip, so that might not be a huge issue.
Am I pissing money away if I do that?
Are there any other cue companies that offer custom lengths in the 200 or less range (more than that and I'll just get a cue from one of the guy I mentioned above)?
I'd love to get a 60" cue from someone like Joss or something along that lines instead if I could, but Shmelke is the only one Ive found where I could get a 60" cue and have a little input into how it would be made (the important stuff anyway).
