Top cueists to compete in nationals

New Delhi, Jan 11: Top cueists Pankaj Advani and Geet Sethi are among a record 138 cueists who will play in the 73rd Senior Men's National Billiards and Snooker Championships to be held in Bangalore from January 14 to February 2.
National billiards champion Devendra Joshi and Manan Chandra, the defending champion in snooker, would also be seen in action, besides other prominent names in the sport.
Chandra, however, is slated to return to Delhi on January 15 for his engagement with Anuja Thakur, ladies' world champion in billiards and the national title holder in snooker.
Anuja will participate in the 15th Ladies' National Billiards and Snooker Championships to be held simultaneously with the men's event and the 31st junior men's nationals.
Billiards and Snooker Federation of India vice-president Ravi Tandon said almost all the known names would be seen in action at the tournament.
"All top players will be playing in the nationals with Yasin Merchant, Ashok Shandilya, Alok Kumar, Aditya Mehta and Rafat Habib being the some of the prominent names," he said.
"We are also holding second edition of the sub-juniors and Kirti Bandala of Delhi will be the youngest participant at the age of 11 years in the girls' sub-junior division," he added.
"All players are playing in both snooker and billiards." Tandon also said that the travel expenses of all the Delhi players would be sponsored by Sahara India. (Agencies)
