Server timing out when posting

I'd like to know if people have the same problem as me when making a post. The server times out and logs me off, when I try to log back in and go right back to the post to finish, it never goes back to where I was and gives me a error message. Invalid Forum specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator And I have to start all over. I've been copying the post, before I hit the submit or preview button to make sure I don't lose the post and have to start from the very beginning. I'm not a slow at typing, but I'm not lightning fast either. Plus I like to think about what I say. Like I am now. :D

So is there a better way or could we get the server not to time out so fast?

Wilson or Mike can you help me on this? Or am I stuck with having to copy and paste just about every time I make a post.

I'm having no such problems. I'm on a cable modem, though.

Are you having similar troubles on other sites? It may well be your connection.

I've had the same problem a couple times.

If it's going to be a long post, I type my response in Word and come back and copy and paste it.

Not that anyone has ever called me "long winded". LOL

Do you guys have the "keep me logged in" (or whatever the exact verbiage is) checkbox checked when you log in? I don't think your session ever expires if you have that option checked.

Unfortunately, the server has no way to figure out if you are away from your computer or not. Webservers have limited amount of connections that's why timeout is enforced. It's also for your own security, so no one will accidentally use your session.

Heh. Webservers don't maintain connections to start with. It's a stateless environment. What they *do* do is look to see if your machine makes requests for data on a timely basis (i.e. when you view a page, or hit the 'submit' button on a post).

I have the same problem almost every time I post. Besides copying and pasting, if after logging in and getting the invalid thread notice, you go back a few pages to "reply to topic", your text will still be there. Use your browser's back button to get there. You can then proceed to preview or post it. (It is annoying and only happens on this particular forum to me.)

Edit: Or try Slowhand's solution above, which if it works should make us both happy.
